Employee Theft and Increasing Productivity
By Dan Locke
Employee Theft
"Employee theft is the predominant source of shrinkage, accounting for almost 50% of the total losses." - National Retail Security Survey, University of Florida
What goes on at your business when you are away?
Could it be that some of your employees are stealing from you … and slacking off?
They aren’t doing this when you are watching them… when you are “right there”.
When you are in the shop, they are, no doubt, model citizens; honest and productive.
But when you turn your back, some of them are taking advantage of you.
"The Secret"
The Secret? Always “be there” and never turn your back!
Install a closed circuit television (CCTV) security system.
Here are some examples:
- New York City: The police there attributed a 44% drop in crime in a housing project due to security cameras being installed
- Traffic: You know those cameras that are placed at intersections to “pinch” the speeding motorist? Everywhere they are installed, safety in the area increases. Traffic accidents and violations plummet.
- Business: Business owners who install cameras in their production areas report that productivity increases by as much as 20%!
Employees feel that the boss might always be looking in on them! And employee theft is a rare ocurrence in areas where cameras are installed and operating!
All this results in a more productive and happier employee base. And productive and happy employees are easier to retain and take more responsibility for the overall show.
It’s a win for everyone!
And you know what? CCTV is really inexpensive! You probably thought otherwise. Just like computers; technology has “caught up”! You can get a CCTV system for less money now than you ever could before.
